Martin Lee Wimbs, Sr
Martin Lee Wimbs, Sr., 86, 3504 Flint St, C115, Greensboro, NC died May 30, 2013 at Beacon Place.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 3 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Forbis and Dick, 1118 N. Elm Street. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church and inurnment of the cremated remains will be in the church columbarium.
Martin was born in Fulton, Itawamba County, Miss., February 28, 1927. He was the son of the late Martin Luther and Berniece Lee Wimbs. After high school he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines and received an honorable discharge from the U.S Coast Guard. He retired from Blue Bell, Inc. and VF International after forty years of domestic and international manufacturing and engineering services, working in and visiting over 54 countries. After retirement he joined the International Executive Service Corps and did consulting projects in Peru, Egypt (2), Morocco, India, Turkmenistan, Chile, Argentina, Thailand, and The Slovak Republic. He was a 55 year Life Member of Masonic Lodge #185, Abingdon, Illinois, a 55 year 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Peoria, Illinois Consistory, former member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, former Explorer Scout leader, a 48 year member of The First Baptist Church of Greensboro, NC, former Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Barnabas Sunday School Class. He was an avid fly fisherman, private pilot, seaman, and sailor.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nelle Dozier Wimbs, his children Martin Lee Wimbs, Jr. and wife Shearin; Don Wimbs; Shauna Gamble and husband Mike of Surf City, NC; and Pam Wimbs; grandchildren Marcus Wimbs; Michael Wimbs of North Kansas City, MO; Kimberly Pruitt and husband Charles; Erika Forrester and husband Joshua; and Robert Hunter of Surf City, NC; and great grandchildren Dylan Pruitt, Bailey Pruitt, Jackson Forrester, and Cooper Forrester.
